If you are planning a Grand Canyon travel holiday, there are a few places you want to add to your itinerary so that you can see all the great things that the canyon has to offer. Of course, you'll want to get spectacular views and for this you want to go to the South Rim of the canyon. Here you will find Grand Canyon Village which is the transportation center of the South Rim. Here you can hop on a free shuttle bus that will take you to lodges, restaurants and shops as well as buses that will bring you to many of the canyons overlooks on a relaxing tour. This is also where the Grand Canyon Railroad travels along the Rim.
Also in the village, you'll find a historic district that was built in the early 20th century by the Santa Fe Railroad as well as market Plaza that houses a bank, the post office and general store and Deli.
Yavapai Observation Station is a great place to visit for wonderful canyon views but also, if you want to learn a little bit about the geography of the Grand Canyon did you will find exhibits and displays here that will teach you just that. You'll want to include a trip to the Desert View Watchtower in your Grand Canyon travels as this interesting structure which was built in 1932 is the highest point on the South Rim at 70 feet tall. Built as a replica of an ancient Indian tower this provides great views of the painted Desert, the San Francisco peaks and the Grand Canyon.
If you want to learn a little bit about the cultures that have inhabited the Grand Canyon and take a trip to the Tusayan Ruin and Museum where you can see what it was like for the Pueblo Indians 800 years ago.
For one of the most interesting views add a trip to Tuweep to your Grand Canyon Travel agenda. This overlook boasts a sheer drop that gives you a 3000 vertical foot look down onto the Colorado River. This is located on the northwest rim and is rather a remote spot but can be well worth it for the breathtaking view.
