Grand Canyon vacations offer a great way to see one of the natural wonders of the world as well as learn about this interesting area. There's plenty to do and see at the Grand Canyon and if you love the outdoors there are a lot of activities that you can engage in from going on a moderate hike to white water rafting on a dangerous river.
The Grand Canyon offers gorgeous views of this 1 mile deep canyon that reveals layers of earth which go back billions of years in history. But you don't have to be satisfied to just look at it, there are many ways for you to get right into the canyon and experience it firsthand. From hiking to horseback riding to mule back riding to kayaking to white water rafting there's something for everyone on this vacation.
But one thing about Grand Canyon vacations that a lot of people don't understand is you need to plan out your activities ahead of time because some of the things you want to do will require reservations well in advance. The mule rides, for example are very popular and you need to reserve your spot at least six months ahead of time in order to guarantee that you'll get in. So your best bet is to go through some brochures or look on the Internet and plan out the activities you want to do as soon as you know you'll be vacationing there so that you can call up and make reservations.
Another thing you want to do is pick your hotel and make sure you reserve a room. There are plenty of hotels in the area, but only seven of them are inside Grand Canyon National Park. Here you can choose from modern style hotels to rustic to elegant hotels that were built in the early 20th century. If you prefer rustic accommodations, the Phantom Ranch located at the bottom of the canyon offers cabins and dormitory style accommodations but be prepared because you can't get there by car you'll have to either walk in, raft in or mule in!
There are a lot of different tours you can take on your vacation so you want to have a good idea of which ones suit your needs. The Grand Canyon Railroad is a really great trip to take and you can even get a package deal that includes an overnight stay of up to three nights as well as pick different classes to ride in on the scenic Railroad tour that boasts restored vintage railway cars.
You might want to see the Grand Canyon from the air and for this there is a variety of helicopter and airplane tours that you can take some of which combine white water rafting or land tours in four-wheel drive vehicles. Either way you want to make your reservations early to be sure that you can get that tour you really want.
Grand Canyon vacations offer a great way to combine culture with beautiful views as well as learn a little bit. Not only can you see historical buildings in the Grand Canyon National Park, you can learn about geology and how the canyon was formed as well as get a little lesson in archaeology and even see some Pueblo Indian ruins from over a 800 years ago.
